What can I expect in a first session?
The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We’ll talk about what brings you to therapy, what you hope to get from the process, and I’ll answer any questions you have. Together, we’ll decide on the best way to move forward at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
How long are sessions?
Most sessions are 50 minutes. Sometimes longer or shorter sessions can be arranged, depending on your needs.
How often will we meet?
Many clients find bi-weekly sessions helpful, especially at the beginning. Over time, we can adjust the frequency depending on your goals, progress, and circumstances.
Do you offer online or in-person sessions?
Unfortunately, we currently only provide online (virtual) sessions. It is our goal to eventually have a space where you can come in person.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Everything you share is private and confidential, with a few exceptions required by law (such as concerns about safety). I will go over confidentiality in detail during our first meeting.
Do you work with 2SLGBTQIA+ clients?
Absolutely. This practice is intentionally queer-affirming and inclusive. All gender identities, sexual orientations, and relationship structures are welcomed and respected here.
How much does therapy cost?
The fee for a 50-minute session is $140. Most insurance plans cover therapy for counselling therapists. Sliding scale spots may also be available; please reach out if cost is a concern.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes, many insurance providers cover therapy with counselling therapists. I recommend checking with your provider to confirm your coverage. I can provide receipts for reimbursement.
What if I’m nervous about starting therapy?
It’s completely normal to feel nervous! Therapy is a new experience for many people. You don’t have to come in with all the answers; we’ll start where you are, and I’ll do my best to make the process feel safe and supportive.
Can I request a specific type of therapy?
Absolutely! If you want to try an approach that you think may work for you, we can try it out. For example, many people these days find that CBT does not work for them and the way they think. We can work together to find an approach that best suits you or avoid those that you find unhelpful.
I don’t reside in Nova Scotia. Can I still request therapy from you?
Yes! The CCPA and the NSCCT both allow for interprovincial practice of counselling therapy within Canada. The only difference between each province is the protected title. Of course, this would have to be virtual only.
